Some people might consider the 1953 Marilyn Monore/Jane Russell musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes to be a classic.  If not a classic, it’s certainly iconic.  Monroe’s rendition of “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” in that film has become one of her most famous screen moments.  But many don’t realize that the film has a forgotten sequel, 1955’s “Gentlemen Marry Brunettes.”  Truth be told, the two films have little to do with each other.  The exceptions being that both mention “Gentlemen” and female hair pigmentation in their titles, and both feature actress Jane Russell.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes was based on a Broadway musical that was itself based on a novel by Anita Loos.  She did write a follow-up novel called But Gentlemen Marry Brunettes, but the filmmakers only borrowed the amended title for this film.  Russell plays a different character than she did in “Blondes” and is joined by Jeanne…
